Salas Faces Tough Road Ahead: An Interview with Miguel “El Toro” Rodriguez
Football is back in Burgos and Soria this weekend, and the barracks are buzzing with anticipation. We’re joined today by local legend and former professional footballer, Miguel “El Toro” Rodriguez, to discuss the upcoming matchups and share his insights on the challenges facing our local teams. Welcome, Miguel!
Miguel: it’s great to be here. Always a pleasure to talk about football, especially when it’s our local boys taking the pitch.
Moderator: Let’s start with Salas. They’re facing a formidable opponent right out of the gate in gamonal. What are yoru predictions for this match?
Miguel: Gamonal is a tough nut to crack. They’re sitting pretty high in the standings, and Salas has always struggled against them. But, you no, Salas has a fighting spirit, and they’ve surprised us before. They ended 2024 with a draw against the league leaders, which shows they’ve got the grit. it’ll be a tough match, no doubt, but I wouldn’t write Salas off just yet.
Moderator: Do you think Salas’ challenging schedule early in the year could work against them?
Miguel: I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a bad thing. Facing strong opponents right away can push them to perform at their best. The key is to avoid getting disheartened by early losses. If Salas can pick up some points even against tough opposition, it’ll build their confidence going into the rest of the season.
Moderator: turning our attention to the Soria league, there’s a lot of PEI action this weekend. Five Pinariegos teams are competing, which is great to see.
Miguel: Yeah, Pinariego is well represented this year. It’s fantastic to see so many local teams vying for the top spot.
Moderator: CD Covaleda, currently the highest-ranked Pinariegos team, is facing CD Calasanz de Soria ”B”. Do you have a favorite in that matchup?
Miguel: Covaleda is playing well, but don’t underestimate Calasanz “B.” They’re a scrappy team with a lot of young talent. I think it’ll be a close match, but Covaleda should have the edge.
Moderator: what about Abejar CF travelling to Arcos de Jalón?
Miguel: Abejar is always a tough team on the road. They’ve got a never-say-die attitude. But Arcos is a solid side, playing on their home turf. This one is a toss-up, really.
Moderator: The Soria Women’s league kicks off a week later. Do you have any thoughts on the upcoming season?
Miguel: I’m really excited to see the women’s league back in action. It’s gained a lot of momentum in recent years, and the talent level is getting better all the time.
Moderator: miguel “El Toro” rodriguez, thank you so much for your time and your insights.
Miguel: my pleasure. Let’s hope for a thrilling weekend of football!
