Young Montevideo Footballers Aim for International Glory in Argentina
A group of passionate young footballers from Montevideo’s “Future Champions” school are gearing up for an incredible chance: competing in an international tournament in Córdoba, Argentina, in early 2024.
Sixteen aspiring athletes are set to embark on this journey, driven by their love for the sport and the thrill of competition. ”Football is my passion, it brings me so much joy,” shares one of the young players. Another adds, “I love it, I’m always with my teammates, we’re like a family.”
The dedication to football runs deep within these youngsters. As one enthusiastically puts it, “I’ve been on the field since I was in my mother’s womb!”
This diverse group, hailing from various neighborhoods across Montevideo and even the interior, trains diligently on the municipal fields of the Repecho club. Ezequiel Vázquez, the team’s dedicated technical director, emphasizes the commitment and talent these young athletes possess.
To make this dream a reality, each player needs USD 380 to cover travel expenses. The “Future Champions” are actively seeking support from the community to help these promising young athletes reach their goals.

“We still have a long way to go financially, as these trips are quite expensive,” Vázquez admits. “But this is a once-in-a-lifetime experiance, and the children are incredibly excited about it.”
