With D’Angelo Russell’s exit, the Los Angeles Lakers have seen not only Austin Reaves step into a more prominent role but also Gabe Vincent emerge as a key contributor. After enduring a challenging season and a half marked by injuries and limited playing time, Vincent has finally found his rhythm and is making a significant impact on the court.
“My role? It’s simple—to win games and contribute to our success,” Vincent stated following the Lakers’ victory over the Nets, a game that ironically featured Russell. “Some nights, my focus will be on defense. Other times, I’ll handle the ball more or find my scoring opportunities.no matter what’s asked of me, my goal is to help this team win.”
Vincent’s recent performances have been a testament to his growing confidence. In Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat, his former team, he scored 14 points, showcasing his improved form. Over the past month, his production has surged, jumping from an average of 2.8 points per game at 31% shooting in the first 19 games to 6.9 points per game at 45% shooting. His standout performance against the Nets, where he recorded 10 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, further solidified his upward trajectory.
After being limited to just 11 games last season due to injuries, Vincent is now fully healthy and optimistic about his future. “I’m thankful to be back on the court and in good health,” he shared. “I’m taking it one game at a time, but I believe the best is yet to come.”
Vincent’s next challenge comes in the highly anticipated clash against the Clippers this Sunday. With both teams vying for position in the tightly contested Western Conference—currently separated by just one win—the stakes couldn’t be higher.
