Roberta Tempone: Thank you! It was truly a fantastic experience. This tournament was unique as it wasn’t just about competition; it was about bringing together archers of all abilities, creating a space where everyone feels welcome and has the chance to shine. Seeing able-bodied archers competing alongside para-archers like myself, Anna Varriale, and Valerio comminiello created such a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
Moderator: Absolutely. The article highlights the dedication of the organizers, especially Asd Arcieri Lucani Potenza, in promoting this inclusive ethos. Do you think this approach is crucial for the growth of archery as a sport?
Roberta Tempone: Absolutely. we need to break down the barriers and stereotypes surrounding para-sports. By integrating them with able-bodied competitions, we show that disability doesn’t define an athlete’s ability or passion. It broadens perspectives and allows para-archers to be recognized for thier skills, not just their differences.
Moderator: that resonates with what Potenza City Councilor Gerardo Nardiello said about the unifying power of archery. It truly seems to transcend physical limitations.
Roberta Tempone: Exactly! Archery requires intense focus, precision, and mental strength. It’s a sport that challenges everyone, regardless of ability, and teaches valuable life lessons like discipline and perseverance.
Moderator: Now,speaking of challenges, how do you see the visibility of para-archery evolving? Is the sport getting the recognition it deserves?
Roberta Tempone: There’s definitely been progress, but there’s still a long way to go. We need more media coverage, increased sponsorship opportunities, and support from stakeholders. When peopel see para-archers competing at the highest level, witnessing their determination and skill,it changes perceptions and encourages more people with disabilities to take up the sport.
