Former Red Sparks athlete Giovanna Milana expressed her admiration for Megawati Hangestri’s performance after the latter was named MVP of the third round in the 2024-2025 Korean Volleyball League.
The Red Sparks secured a decisive victory in the third round, sweeping their opponents, IBK Altos, with a resounding 3-0 score on December 31, 2024. This impressive win solidified their dominance in the league.
The team, led by coach Ko Hee-jin, showcased exceptional teamwork and individual brilliance, with Megawati Hangestri and Vanja Bukilic standing out as key contributors.
Hangestri’s exceptional performance earned her the coveted MVP title for the third round. Her remarkable statistics, including a staggering 155 points, placed her second in the league’s scoring charts for the half-season.
Beyond her point total, Hangestri’s dominance extended to other crucial areas. She currently leads the league in five key categories: attack rate (52.8%), open attack percentage (47.0%), and back attack percentage (57.4%). These statistics highlight her versatility and effectiveness as a player.

As a seasoned player,what are your thoughts on Hangestri’s rise to MVP?
Peter: Megawati is playing some phenomenal volleyball right now. Her stats speak for themselves – leading the league in attack rate, open attack percentage, back attack percentage, AND racking up 155 points. That’s simply incredible. She’s a force of nature on the court.
Moderator: It’s not just the numbers, though, is it? There seems to be a certain aura, a confidence that radiates from her. They call her “Megatron” for a reason.Do you see that same level of dominance when you watched her play?
peter: absolutely. Confidence is key in volleyball, and Megawati exudes it. She’s not afraid to take risks, to go for the big shots. And when she connects, it’s like watching poetry in motion.
Moderator: The Red Sparks as a whole seem unstoppable.
Their 3–0 sweep over the IBK Altos in the third round was a statement. What do you attribute their success to?
Peter: They’re a well-oiled machine.Coach Ko Hee-jin has done a fantastic job building a roster wiht both talent and depth. And the team chemistry is clearly there.
They play with a fluidity and understanding that’s a joy to watch.
Moderator: Now, you mentioned depth.
Many analysts are wondering if the Red Sparks can maintain this level of performance throughout the season.
Do you think they have what it takes to go all the way?
Peter: It’s early days, but they certainly have the potential. Consistency is key, of course, and there will be tough challenges ahead. But if they can maintain this momentum, the Korean Volleyball League title is definitely within reach.
