Gremio Targets Racing’s Cambeses as Goalkeeper Reinforcement for Marchesín

Gremio Targets Racing’s Cambeses as Goalkeeper Reinforcement for Marchesín

As the transfer window remains active,‌ Gremio has expressed interest in securing a⁢ key player from⁢ Racing. While the club ⁤is focused on finalizing Richard⁢ Sánchez’s move and determining the⁤ future of their ⁢U.S.-based ‌operations,an informal offer ‍from Brazil has caught their attention. According to Racing de Alma, Gremio is eyeing‍ Facundo Cambeses as a ⁣potential goalkeeper ⁢replacement following Agustín Marchesín’s⁤ departure. The Porto Alegre-based team is in need of one or two goalkeepers, ‍and⁢ Cambeses, formerly of Banfield, has re-emerged as a target for brazilian clubs. This comes despite Gremio’s verbal agreement with Tiago Volpi and the club’s leadership taking a firm⁢ stance on negotiations.

Gremio Targets Cambeses from Racing⁤ for Goalkeeping Reinforcement

This time, the interest in Cambeses stems directly from Gremio’s coaching staff. Gustavo Quinteros, who recently took charge of the team, ⁣had previously attempted to bring Cambeses⁣ to Vélez before‍ the goalkeeper joined Racing. A year ago, Quinteros was unsuccessful in⁤ securing Cambeses, a player he has consistently valued. Racing’s‍ leadership has made it clear that ⁤they are unwilling to sell⁢ Cambeses unless a considerable offer is made, as⁣ they ‍see ‍him as a potential starter in the near future. This is especially relevant ⁤given Gabriel Arias’s age (37)⁢ and the likelihood of ⁣his retirement or departure from ‍the club.

Quinteros had previously pursued Cambeses‌ during his time at Vélez.

Gremio’s unofficial proposal to Racing was $2.5 million gross plus $500,000 ⁣in bonuses to secure Cambeses as‌ their new goalkeeper. However, Racing’s leadership considers this‍ offer insufficient, as it barely covers the $2 million net they paid to acquire him from Banfield. Replacing Cambeses would also prove challenging for Racing. Meanwhile, Cambeses remains ‌neutral⁣ about the situation. While he is⁣ content at Racing, the financial allure of Brazilian football is undeniably appealing. It’s worth noting that Botafogo had ‍also shown interest⁢ in Cambeses a few weeks ago, as exclusively reported by Racing de alma. At this ⁣stage, it appears Cambeses will ⁤remain ‌with Racing‌ and not make the move to Gremio.
