France’s Handball Squad Shows Promise in Tournoi de France Opener
The French national handball team, led by coach Guillaume Gille, kicked off their 2025 campaign with a resounding victory against the Czech Republic in Strasbourg. This match, part of the Tournoi de France, serves as crucial preparation for the upcoming World Cup, which commences on January 14th and will be hosted jointly by Norway, Denmark, and Croatia.
Despite a slow start, with the Czechs scoring the first goal after five minutes, the Blues quickly took control. By the 15th minute, thay had established an 8-6 lead, which they extended to 12-8 thanks to a strong performance from Dylan Nahi. The first half concluded with France dominating the scoreboard, leading 22-12.
The second half saw Gille utilize his squad depth, bringing in veteran Luka Karabatic, who at 36,showcased his experience alongside his brother, the recently retired Nikola. While France maintained their lead, reaching 31-20 by the 47th minute, the Czechs mounted a comeback in the final stages, narrowing the gap to 31-23 by the 52nd minute. This resurgence coincided with a less impressive performance from goalkeeper Charles Bolzinger, who struggled to match the earlier success of Rémi Desbonnet and Samir Bellahcene.Despite the late Czech surge, France secured a cozy 37-28 victory, marking their 13th win against the Czech Republic in the last decade, with only one draw and five losses during that period.
dika Mem expressed optimism about the team’s progress: “We’re on the right track, there’s not much missing,” he stated on BeIN Sport. “Everyone is happy and eager for the competition.”
Coach Gille, while acknowledging the positive aspects of the first half, remained cautious: “There are things to take away from this match. The first half was dominated by us,but the second half was more mixed due to the rotations. We allowed the Czechs to play more freely in the second half, which resulted in them scoring more goals.”
France will face Portugal on Friday in their final warm-up match before the World Cup. Their preliminary round group includes Qatar, kuwait, and Austria, with all matches taking place in Porec, Croatia. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next stage of the tournament.
A Winning Start? Analyzing France’s Handball Opener with Nikola Karabatic
Welcome back, handball fans! Today, we have a very special guest, teh legendary Nikola Karabatic, joining us to discuss France’s impressive victory against the Czechs in the Tournoi de France opener.Welcome, Nikola!
nikola: Thanks for having me! It’s always a pleasure to talk handball.
Interviewer: That was a dominant performance in the first half, wasn’t it? France seemed to be in complete control.
Nikola: Absolutely. The team started strong, Dylan Nahi was on fire, adn the movement in attack was fluid. It looked like classic French handball, with everyone contributing.
Interviewer: But the second half saw a Czech resurgence. What were your thoughts on that? Coach Gille mentioned the rotations might have played a role.
Nikola: I agree with Guillaume. When you make changes, there’s always a slight dip in intensity, and the Czechs capitalized on that. They started hitting their shots and our defense wasn’t as tight as it was in the first half.
Interviewer: Charles Bolzinger had a bit of a rough patch there towards the end. Do you think that’s a concern going into the World Cup?
Nikola: Every goalkeeper has their ups and downs. Bolzinger is fantastic, but Remy Desbonnet and Samir Bellahcene are also world-class. it’s a good problem for Gille to have, actually.
Interviewer: Luka, your brother, still looked sharp despite his veteran status. He seems to be mentoring the younger players well.
녜Nikola: (laughs) I can confirm that Luka’s a born leader, on and off the court. He brings experience and calmness to the team, which is invaluable, particularly for the younger guys.
Interviewer: So, what are your predictions for the World Cup? France is certainly a favorite.
Nikola: They’re always a contender, but it’s a tough competition. Norway, Denmark, and Croatia are all strong teams. It’ll come down to who can maintain
consistency and handle the pressure.
Interviewer: Dika Mem expressed optimism about the team’s progress. Do you share his confidence?
Nikola: I certainly do. France has a lot of talent, and gille is a brilliant coach. They have a good mix of youth and experience, and they’ll be hungry for another title.
