Moderator: Congratulations on your win! It was an incredible display of skill and strategy. Tell us, what was going through your mind during that tense final showdown?
Kento Nakamura: thank you! It was definitely a nail-biter. after coming so close last year,I was determined to win this time. There were moments where I felt the pressure, especially when Tojo Productions took that early lead. But I tried to focus on my own hand,make smart decisions,and capitalize on any opportunities.
Moderator: You pulled off an incredible comeback,securing five consecutive wins at the end.What was the turning point for you?
Nakamura: I think the turning point was when I finally managed to surpass Tanaka’s lead. From there, I gained momentum and confidence. Plus, landing that “hatsu, Dora 2, Red” hand for 4,000 points was a huge boost. It felt like everything was clicking into place.
Moderator: Many baseball fans might find it captivating that you excel at mahjong. Do you see any parallels between the two sports?
Nakamura: Absolutely. Both require strategic thinking, reading your opponent, and managing risk. In baseball, it’s about anticipating the pitcher’s next move and making split-second decisions at the plate. In mahjong, it’s about analyzing your tiles, predicting your opponents’ hands, and making calculated decisions about when to go for a win.
Moderator: That’s a fascinating outlook. This tournament saw both professional baseball players and professional mahjong players competing. as a baseball player, do you feel there’s a different approach or mindset when playing against mahjong experts?
Nakamura: it’s definitely a challenge! Professional mahjong players have a deeper understanding of the game’s intricacies and nuances. They are incredibly skilled at reading the board and making complex calculations. I have a lot of respect for their abilities.While I try to bring my own baseball mentality of determination and competitiveness to the table, I’m always learning from these experienced players.

Nakamura: definitely! I’m hooked. This tournament has become a highlight of my off-season, and I’m determined to defend my title next year.
