We caught up with Mette Heilesen, former Danish badminton champion and Olympian, to get her take on this week’s offerings and the importance of community in sports.
Moderator: Mette, thanks for joining us. Taking a look at Holmegaard’s events schedule, what caught your eye?
mette: It’s fantastic to see such a diverse range of activities. As a former athlete, my heart warms to see the Toksværd Badminton Club reaching out to young people.Badminton is a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or skill level. It’s a great way to stay active, have fun, and build camaraderie.
Moderator: Absolutely! The club specifically mentioned wanting to expand their roster with younger players. what advice would you give to young people considering trying out badminton?
Mette: Go for it! There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. Badminton is a truly rewarding sport. It’s fast-paced, challenging, and incredibly fun. Plus, you get to be part of a supportive community. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, learn from experienced players, and most importantly, enjoy the process.
Moderator: that’s great advice! On the flip side, we see Holmegaard Gods hosting an evening of clairvoyance. That’s quite a different scene.
Mette: (laughs) It certainly is! While I’m focused on the physical side of things,I recognize that wellness encompasses manny aspects. If that kind of exploration helps people connect with themselves and find inner peace, I’m all for it.
Moderator: Well said. It shows the diversity Holmegaard offers its community. Do you think events like these are crucial in fostering a sense of belonging within a town?
Mette: Absolutely. Having a variety of events creates a sense of vibrancy and inclusivity. It encourages people from all walks of life to come together, share experiences, and build connections.
Moderator: Existing sports clubs are sometimes hesitant to embrace new members. Do you think events like the badminton trial session are key to attracting new talent?
