*What is a sensory Room?
the term “sensory room” is commonly used in the UK and serves as an choice to “snoezelen,” a term previously trademarked by a British company. These spaces are designed with soft lighting and soundproofing to minimize sensory overload, allowing individuals to enjoy activities like watching sports or movies in a calm and secure setting.
In today’s diverse society, the way people experience and enjoy movies can vary considerably. While the methods of viewing may differ, the fundamental desire to watch and appreciate films remains global, even for individuals with unique needs. This principle underscores the importance of creating inclusive spaces that cater to everyone, ensuring that the joy of cinema is accessible to all.
*Understanding Calm Down/Cool Down Spaces:
For individuals with developmental or invisible disabilities, environments filled with unfamiliar movements, mixed crowds, bright lights, loud sounds, or strong scents can trigger anxiety and stress. Calm Down or Cool Down spaces are specifically designed to alleviate these challenges. These areas provide a safe haven where individuals can reduce sensory overload, regain composure, and avoid panic. The core idea is to offer a sense of security and tranquility, particularly for children with sensory sensitivities or difficulties in processing unfamiliar situations. By ensuring the availability of such spaces, we can foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels supported and at ease.
