From Türkiye to the NBA: An Interview with rising Star Melvin Ajinça
Melvin Ajinça, a 6’8″ wing born in 2004, is making waves in the basketball world. Selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Draft (51st pick),Ajinça is currently showcasing his talents with ASVEL in the EuroLeague.I recently had the possibility to speak with Ajinça following a thrilling Anadolu Efes – ASVEL matchup.
Ajinça on ASVEL’s Potential:
“I believe we have the potential for a remarkable season,” Ajinça stated confidently. “Our team is strong, we have remarkable players, and we’re capable of achieving great things. We just need to maintain our momentum and keep racking up wins.”

When asked about his strengths on the court, Ajinça described himself as a “3&D player,” emphasizing the importance of consistent shooting, aggression, and drawing fouls.Family Ties and Mentorship:
Ajinça is the cousin of former NBA player Alexis Ajinca, and they maintain a close relationship. “We speak on the phone three times a week,” Ajinça shared. “He provides invaluable advice based on his own experiences,which helps me grow as a player and perform at my best.”
The road to the NBA:
Despite being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, Ajinça is focused on continuous improvement in the EuroLeague. “I’m staying connected with the Mavericks organization,” he explained. “My priority is to elevate my game in this league, gain valuable experience, and work tirelessly towards my NBA dream.”
