French goalkeeper Jean Butez, currently playing for Royal Antwerp in Belgium, appears set to join Como, a newly promoted Serie A club. This comes after a last-minute change of plans that saw a potential move to RC Lens fall through.
Lens had initially targeted Butez as a replacement for Brice Samba, aiming to bolster their goalkeeping options alongside Hervé Koffi. however, the club’s management ultimately decided against the transfer.
Butez is now expected to travel to lombardy early this week to complete his medical examinations with Como. Barring any unforeseen issues, the deal is expected to be finalized shortly. This move represents a significant possibility for Butez to showcase his talents in one of Europe’s top leagues. Como’s recent promotion to Serie A adds further intrigue to the transfer, as the club looks to establish itself in the Italian top flight.
Butez to Como: A Risky Gamble or a Golden Possibility?
Welcome back, football fans! This week I’m joined by former Serie A striker, Luca Toni, to dissect the latest transfer news surrounding French goalkeeper Jean Butez. As many of you know, Butez is on the verge of leaving Royal Antwerp for newly-promoted Como, a move that arises after a last-minute collapse of his transfer to RC Lens.
Luca, thanks for joining me today. Let’s dive straight into this. Butez was seemingly all set to join Lens, replacing Brice Samba. What do you make of Lens ultimately deciding against the transfer?
Luca Toni: Well, it’s certainly a surprise.Lens needed a solid goalkeeper, and Butez showed plenty of promise in Belgium. Perhaps they had concerns about his ability to adapt to the more physical and faster-paced nature of Ligue 1. Or maybe they’re looking at another target altogether. We just don’t know the whole story.
I think you’re right, Luca. It does add another layer of intrigue to the situation. Now, Butez appears set to join Como, a club just finding its feet in Serie A. this move begs the question – is this a calculated risk for Butez, or a step backwards in his career?
Luca Toni: It’s definitely a gamble, there’s no denying that. Como are a good club with ambition, but Serie A is a crucible. It’s a league where even the best goalkeepers can be tested week in, week out. Butez will need to be at the top of his game to succeed.
That said, it could be a fantastic opportunity for him. if he can establish himself as first choice and perform well, he’ll gain valuable experience and put himself on the radar of bigger clubs. Think about it – Gianluigi Donnarumma took a similar leap of faith joining AC Milan at a young age,and look where he is now!
And it’s not just about butez, either. Como’s success depends on the entire team, wouldn’t you agree?
Luca Toni: Absolutely. Football is a team sport. Butez will need a strong defence in front of him, and Como’s attack needs to be firing on all cylinders to lighten the load. It’ll be engaging to see how the pieces fit together.
this is a crucial season for Como. Do you think they can stay up in Serie A?
Luca Toni: Staying up will be a tough ask,no doubt about it. They’ve made some promising signings, but Serie A is incredibly competitive. It’ll be a season of ups and downs, that’s for sure. However, if Butez can shine, it could inject the confidence and leadership they need to defy the odds.
I agree. Butez’s arrival could be the spark Como needs.

Thanks for joining me today, Luca.
Luca Toni: My pleasure. It’s always good to talk football!
