At the helm of this exciting chapter is former player Martin Asselin, who assumes the roles of owner adn president of the board of directors.[[1]]
This strategic move mirrors the successful model employed by the shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL, ensuring stability and long-term growth for the Cascades within the Quebec Major Baseball League (QMLB).[[2]] Asselin, a dedicated local businessman with a deep understanding of the team’s history, brings invaluable experience to the table. Having played six seasons with the Shawinigan team (2015-2020) and contributing to the Cascades’ development since its inception, Asselin’s commitment to the organization is unwavering. His leadership was instrumental in securing the championship title in 2021 as an assistant coach, further solidifying his credentials.
The new structure will be bolstered by a team of experienced professionals. Marc: I, for one, am incredibly optimistic. Martin bleeds Cascades blue. he understands the team, the city’s passion, and what it takes to build a winning culture. Having someone with his experience and dedication at the helm gives me a lot of confidence for the future.

Marc: Absolutely! The Cataractes’ sustained success is a testament to the power of a strong leadership structure. While there are differences between hockey and baseball, the core principles of stability, long-term vision, and a commitment to excellence remain the same.
Moderator: we’ve seen a lot of movement in terms of key personnel with the return of players like Alex Janelle-Gagnon and Matthew Rusch, plus eight promising draft picks on deck. How do you see this shaping up the Cascades roster for the 2025 season?
Marc: This is a crucial year for the Cascades. bringing back experienced players like Janelle-Gagnon and Rusch provides solid leadership and a winning mentality. Coupled with the fresh talent coming in from the draft, I see a team that’s hungrier than ever to prove themselves.
Moderator: As someone who’s seen a lot of baseball over the years, what advice would you give to these young players as they begin their journey with Cascades Go Sport?
Marc: Embrace the pressure! Shawinigan fans are some of the most passionate in the league. They crave a winning team and will fiercely support their players. Work hard, trust your abilities, and never forget the pride of representing the Bleu et Blanc.

Marc:I wouldn’t put it past them! This team has all the ingredients for success: a passionate fan base, a dedicated leadership team, and a roster brimming with talent. The Mounties are tough competition, no doubt.But with the right mindset and a bit of luck, I believe the Cascades can definitely make a run for the championship.
