Pieter: Mechelen truly is a unique place. There’s a palpable energy there – a combination of the passionate crowds, the history of the Nekkerhal, and the dedication of everyone involved, from the organizers to the grooms.It feels like everyone is invested in making it a truly world-class event.
Moderator: You secured a well-deserved bronze medal at the recent World Cup, narrowly missing out on gold. Can you walk us through your experience, your emotions during the competition, and the feeling of standing on that podium?
Pieter: It was an unbelievable experience, definitely one for the books. I felt my horse was in top form, and we had a good rhythm throughout the competition. Coming so close to gold was bittersweet, of course, but standing on that podium, representing Belgium, with the support of the home crowd, was truly something special. It fuels the fire for the next challenge!
Moderator: We also saw your compatriot, Gilles Thomas, perform exceptionally well, just missing the top spot. Belgium seems to be producing some phenomenal show-jumping talent.What do you attribute this success to?
Pieter: Belgian show jumping is enjoying a golden era, and it’s fantastic to be a part of it. we have a strong tradition of horsemanship, a dedicated breeding program, and a fantastic support system for riders. We push each other to excel, and the healthy competition within the Belgian team drives us all to be better.

We all share a deep love for horses and a passion for the sport.There’s always room for good-natured humor and pleasant banter – it helps us keep things in perspective and remember to enjoy the journey.
