Construction activities at Castello dei Conti recommenced yesterday morning, marking a significant milestone for one of the city’s most pivotal projects.
In a recent announcement, Antonio Drago, the Councilor for Public Works, shared insights into the project’s progress: “During our initial assessment, we encountered an unexpected halt in construction due to the discovery of historically and archaeologically significant artifacts. This led to a mandatory pause in operations. the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Sicilian Region, requested modifications to the original plans. Through persistent and constructive discussions with the relevant authorities, we’ve successfully navigated the bureaucratic challenges. measures have now been implemented to safeguard these discoveries while ensuring the preservation and enhancement of our city’s rich ancient legacy.”
Drago further elaborated, “As of yesterday, agosta, the contracted firm, has resumed operations at the site. We anticipate the project’s completion within the next 18 months, tho there’s potential to expedite this timeline. Once finished, the Castle will be restored to it’s former glory, offering the community and visitors alike the opportunity to experience one of Modica’s most cherished landmarks—a testament to our shared heritage.”
