ESPN‘s Sunday Night Baseball: Ohtani and the Dodgers Take Centre Stage
Get ready for a thrilling start to the 2025 MLB season! ESPN has announced an exciting lineup for its “Sunday Night Baseball” broadcasts, featuring the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, prominently.
Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers will grace the national stage in four of the first ten “Sunday Night Baseball” games, captivating fans across the country. This primetime exposure underscores the immense star power of Ohtani and the Dodgers’ enduring appeal.
The Dodgers’ Sunday night appearances will include matchups against some of baseball’s most formidable opponents: the Chicago Cubs on April 13th, the atlanta Braves on May 4th, the New York Mets on May 25th, and the New York Yankees on June 1st. These highly anticipated clashes promise to deliver electrifying baseball action.
Adding to the excitement, ESPN will also broadcast the Dodgers’ Opening Day game against the Detroit Tigers on March 27th. This doubleheader, which also features the Milwaukee Brewers visiting the Yankees, marks the official start of the 2025 season. Notably, these Opening Day broadcasts don’t count towards the five-game limit ESPN typically imposes on individual teams for “Sunday Night Baseball” appearances.
The Dodgers’ frequent presence on ”Sunday Night Baseball” reflects their status as a perennial powerhouse. Last year, they were among the teams featured in the maximum five Sunday night games, alongside the Yankees, Braves, and Boston Red Sox.
As its inception in 1990, “Sunday Night Baseball” has become a cornerstone of ESPN’s programming, showcasing the best of Major League Baseball to a nationwide audience. This year’s schedule promises to be another memorable chapter in the show’s illustrious history.

Reggie jackson: Always a pleasure to talk baseball!
I wanted to get your take on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” schedule for 2025. the Dodgers are front and center, with four appearances in the first ten games, including matchups against powerhouse teams like the Braves, Yankees, and Mets. Does this surprise you?
Reggie Jackson: Not at all. The Dodgers are consistently one of the most exciting teams in baseball, and Shohei Ohtani is a generational talent.Putting them on primetime is a no-brainer.Fans want to see Ohtani pitch and hit, and they want to see the Dodgers battle it out against the best. It’s great for the game.
Do you think this level of exposure could potentially put extra pressure on the Dodgers’ young players, especially with the high expectations that come with being in the spotlight so frequently enough?
Reggie Jackson: Pressure is part of the game, especially at the highest level. These guys are professionals, they’re used to it. The Dodgers have a strong core of veteran players who can guide the younger guys. Plus, playing under the lights on national TV can be a great motivator.
Let’s talk about Ohtani specifically. He’s a phenomenon. Do you see him continuing to dominate both as a pitcher and a hitter?
Reggie Jackson: Ohtani is something special. He’s rewriting the rule book. There’s never been a player like him. Can he keep it up? Only time will tell. But he’s got the talent and the work ethic to do it.
