Welcome back to the fight-focused forum where we dissect the world of combat sports, folks! Today, I’m joined by a fighter who needs no introduction, a name synonymous with grit, determination, and undeniable star power – the one and only Paige VanZant.Paige, it’s great to have you here.
Paige VanZant: Thanks for having me! It’s good to be back and talking MMA again.
Let’s jump right in. 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for you, with yoru return to the Octagon under the Global Fight League banner. What prompted this decision after exploring other avenues in combat sports?
PVZ: You know, I never lost my love for MMA. While BKFC and Power Slap were unbelievable experiences, they weren’t quiet home.
The GFL, however, feels different. From the conversations we’ve had, it’s clear they prioritize fighter well-being, which is so important in this sport. Their vision for the future of MMA really resonated with me.
Speaking of vision, the GFL is making waves with its commitment to fighter welfare, specifically mentioning things like fair contracts and even exploring health insurance. As someone who has been vocal about fighter rights, how meaningful is this for you?
PVZ: it’s massive, honestly. We put our bodies and minds on the line every time we step into the cage. Knowing that an organization genuinely cares about our health and financial security is invaluable. It makes you want to fight harder, knowing you’re supported.
I think every fighter, and every fan, wants to see that kind of support across the board in MMA.
Now,you’ve faced some tough battles outside the UFC,venturing into bare-knuckle boxing and Power Slap. Those are incredibly demanding disciplines. How do you feel that experience will translate back into the Octagon?
PVZ: Those experiences definitely toughened me up mentally. Bare-knuckle boxing developed my resilience, while Power Slap sharpened my striking instincts.
I’m a different fighter now – more experienced, more focused, and more dangerous.
You certainly have a knack for pushing boundaries, Paige. While some might question your move to Power Slap, your willingness to explore new challenges is admirable.
But let’s talk about your return to MMA. You last fought in the Octagon in 2020 against Amanda Ribas. What are your goals for this new chapter in your career?
PVZ: I want to prove that I’m still a force to be reckoned with. I’m coming back stronger and more motivated than ever.
My goal?
To become a champion in the GFL, and ultimately, to help elevate the league to become a dominant force in MMA.
