Petra Vlhova Withdraws from Saalbach World Championships Due to Knee Injury

Petra Vlhova,​ teh⁢ reigning Olympic‍ slalom‌ champion, will miss the ‍upcoming world Championships in saalbach this February ⁣due to an unresolved knee injury, as confirmed by her coach on⁢ Monday. The Slovakian⁢ skier’s recovery has not progressed sufficiently to allow⁣ her to compete.

Despite​ making steady progress in her recovery,​ Petra vlhova, the Olympic ⁢slalom gold medalist, will not be able to compete in the World Championships in⁣ Saalbach, Austria, this February. Her coach, Mauro Pini, revealed on Monday that setbacks in December and January have derailed her chances of participating. “Petra’s‌ recovery has been encouraging,⁣ but the recent complications have‍ made‌ it impossible for her to be in ​peak condition for the championships,” Pini stated. “While we had hoped ⁢she would be ready⁤ to contend for medals, her focus now shifts entirely to the cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.” Vlhova, ‍a decorated skier with 31 World Cup​ victories and 73 podium finishes,‌ suffered ⁤a cruciate ligament tear in her right knee during a giant slalom event in jasna in January 2024.

A Legacy of Excellence: Olympic Gold and World Cup Dominance

Vlhova had aimed to return to competitive ‌skiing this winter, but her recovery was further complex by cartilage issues, as announced‌ by her team ⁤last month. The Slovakian star,known for her ⁣fierce rivalry with American skier Mikaela Shiffrin,has an impressive track record. ‌She‌ clinched ‍the‍ Olympic slalom gold ‍in‍ Beijing 2022 and secured the prestigious‌ Crystal Globe in the 2020-21 ski World Cup ⁢season. Additionally, she has earned six World Championship medals, including a gold in the giant slalom at Are ​2019. the 2025 World Championships⁤ are scheduled ‍to run from February 4 to 16 in saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.
