Petra Vlhova, teh reigning Olympic slalom champion, will miss the upcoming world Championships in saalbach this February due to an unresolved knee injury, as confirmed by her coach on Monday. The Slovakian skier’s recovery has not progressed sufficiently to allow her to compete.
Despite making steady progress in her recovery, Petra vlhova, the Olympic slalom gold medalist, will not be able to compete in the World Championships in Saalbach, Austria, this February. Her coach, Mauro Pini, revealed on Monday that setbacks in December and January have derailed her chances of participating. “Petra’s recovery has been encouraging, but the recent complications have made it impossible for her to be in peak condition for the championships,” Pini stated. “While we had hoped she would be ready to contend for medals, her focus now shifts entirely to the cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.” Vlhova, a decorated skier with 31 World Cup victories and 73 podium finishes, suffered a cruciate ligament tear in her right knee during a giant slalom event in jasna in January 2024.

Vlhova had aimed to return to competitive skiing this winter, but her recovery was further complex by cartilage issues, as announced by her team last month. The Slovakian star,known for her fierce rivalry with American skier Mikaela Shiffrin,has an impressive track record. She clinched the Olympic slalom gold in Beijing 2022 and secured the prestigious Crystal Globe in the 2020-21 ski World Cup season. Additionally, she has earned six World Championship medals, including a gold in the giant slalom at Are 2019. the 2025 World Championships are scheduled to run from February 4 to 16 in saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.
