Joining Blake Griffin and Taylor Rooks as analyst for Prime video’s upcoming NBA slate,Dirk is ready to bring his unique insight and Hall-of-Fame perspective to the game.
We had the chance to sit down with Dirk to discuss this exciting new venture and the future of NBA coverage.
You’ve achieved so much in your career, from being a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer to leading the Mavericks to that historic championship. What draws you to this new role with Prime Video?
Dirk: “I’m truthfully excited about this chance. My basketball journey isn’t over, just as I’m not lacing them up anymore. To be able to break down the game, share my experiences, and connect with fans in a different way is incredibly rewarding.
Prime Video’s vision for their NBA coverage is aspiring and innovative, and that’s something I wanted to be a part of.”
Prime Video is committing heavily to the NBA. With coverage of regular season games, playoffs, and even the in-Season Tournament, how important do you think this will be for fans and for the league itself?
Dirk: “It’s a game-changer. Making NBA basketball so accessible, with such thorough coverage, is going to reach a whole new audience. For basketball purists like myself, having more ways to watch and analyze the game is fantastic.
But I think the In-Season Tournament adds an extra layer of excitement. It’s a fresh idea, something different, and
I’m curious to see how teams approach it and how fans react. It could be really special.”
Working alongside Blake Griffin and Taylor Rooks - you have perhaps the ultimate three-point trifecta of personalities. What are you most looking forward to about working with them?
Dirk: “I’m thrilled. Taylor’s energy and knowledge are infectious, she’s going to be fantastic host. Blake brings that unique blend of power and finesse he was known for on the court, I think he’ll be a great analyst.
We all have different playing styles, backgrounds, and perspectives. I think that will make for vibrant conversations and insightful analysis. You can be sure, we won’t shy away from sharing our opinions!”
With so many streaming options available, how does prime Video plan to stand out? What sets this new coverage apart from the rest?
Dirk: “I think it’s that combination of games, platform, and talent. Prime Video is making a serious investment in basketball, and they’re doing it right.
We’re not just going to be showing games; we’re going to be telling stories, diving into the deeper aspects of the game, and giving fans a truly immersive experience.”
This Prime Video deal with the NBA is huge for international fans as well. There are so many NBA fans across the globe. What does this mean for the league’s global growth?

We’re excited to see you back on the court, even if it’s from the analyst’s chair. Any predictions for the upcoming NBA season? Who are your early favorites for the championship?
Dirk: ” (laughs) Let me study the roster movement this offseason before I make any bold predictions. There are always surprises, but
I’m sure it’s going to be a thrilling season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the usual suspects back in the mix,but also some dark horses emerging. Fans are in for a treat!”
