This state-of-the-art facility, spearheaded by the Department, will revolutionize the sporting landscape for individuals with disabilities. Imagine two expansive multi-purpose sports fields, a spacious dojo, a challenging climbing wall, and a therapeutic pool – all under one roof. This dream becomes reality on February 1st, offering a unique and welcoming environment for athletes of all abilities.
The Prisme’s impact is already being felt by local athletes like the six champion basketball players from the JA Drancy adapted sports team. These talented women, who have intellectual disabilities, constantly struggle to secure regular practice slots in conventional gyms. The Prisme, with its potential to become their home court, represents a game-changer.
“Having a dedicated space to train twice a week would be transformative for them,” explains Fabien Paillard, President of the Seine-Saint-Denis Adapted Sports Committee. “It would provide them with much-needed recognition and a sense of belonging.”
The prisme’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in its design and programming. The prominent display of the Agitos, the Paralympic symbol, symbolizes its dedication to athletes with disabilities. However, the facility is open to everyone – individuals, medical-social institutions, para-inclusive clubs, schools – fostering a truly diverse and welcoming community.
“In line with the Department’s vision, we prioritize handisport,” confirms Caroline Duval, the Prisme’s new director, who brings extensive experience from the UCPA, one of the two public service delegates managing the facility alongside the SOS group.
She highlights the allocation of space in the large multi-purpose hall: “65% of reservations are dedicated to handisport, while the remaining 35% are available for activities like badminton, basketball, and futsal.”
With an estimated 17,900 users per month, the Prisme will be a bustling hub of activity. A team of twelve sports instructors, all trained in disability awareness, will ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
Innovative initiatives further enhance the Prisme’s inclusive ethos. The on-site restaurant will be managed by an ESAT (Establishment and Work Support for Adults with Disabilities),providing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the FSGT 93 will host its annual Shared Practices Festival at the Prisme next summer, encouraging interaction and collaboration between able-bodied and disabled individuals.
While public transportation access is currently limited, a dedicated parking area is available for medical-social institutions, many of which have their own transportation. The arrival of the Grand Paris Express will further improve accessibility in the future.
The Prisme’s online reservation platform is already operational, with hourly slots available for just one euro during the opening month. Whether it’s football, badminton, basketball, climbing, or aquagym, the Prisme offers an affordable and accessible sporting experience for everyone.
