Olympic medalist PV sindhu is gearing up for a triumphant 2025 badminton season with a notable shift in her training regimen. The badminton star has transitioned from personalized coaching to a group training surroundings, collaborating with renowned Indian women’s singles coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama in preparation for the India Open.Pratama, formerly the men’s singles coach for Indonesia’s national badminton team, boasts an impressive track record. He played a pivotal role in the meteoric rise of Indonesian badminton stars Jonatan Christie and Anthony Ginting. Christie, a gold medalist at the 2018 Asian Games and the reigning Asian champion, exemplifies Pratama’s coaching prowess. Similarly, Ginting, who secured bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and gold at the 2023 Asian Championships, further testifies to Pratama’s ability to nurture champions.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) appointed Pratama as the national women’s singles coach in early January. Sindhu will be part of the group training sessions led by Pratama at the prestigious Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the 2025 India Open, Sindhu expressed her enthusiasm for this new chapter in her training. “I’ve been training with coach Irwansyah in Bengaluru for about a week and a half now,” she shared. “He’s primarily focused on women’s singles, but he’s also mentoring some promising young male players.”
Sindhu acknowledged the importance of building a strong rapport with her coach. “I’m really looking forward to this collaboration. We’ve just begun, so establishing that connection is crucial. It will take a few training sessions to fully understand his coaching beliefs and strategies,” she added.
This transition marks a departure from Sindhu’s previous training approach, which involved working closely with individual coaches. Throughout her illustrious career, Sindhu has benefited from the guidance of several esteemed coaches, including her mentor and Indian coach Pullela gopichand, who played a pivotal role in her Rio 2016 Olympic silver medal victory. She later collaborated with south Korean coaches Kim Ji Hyun and Park Tae-Sang, followed by stints with Malaysian coach Muhammad Hafiz Hashim and Indian coach Vidhi Choudhary.
Most recently, Sindhu trained under the tutelage of Indonesian legend Agus Dwi Santoso, with Prakash Padukone serving as her mentor during the Paris 2024 Olympics. Prior to joining Pratama’s group, Sindhu worked with Anup Sridhar and Korea’s Lee Hyun-il.Despite a challenging 2024 season, Sindhu ended a two-year title drought by clinching victory at the Syed Modi India international in December. Fueled by an unwavering determination, sindhu remains focused on achieving further international success.”I firmly believe there’s still so much more I can accomplish,” she stated. “The fire within me burns bright, and I know I have the potential to achieve great things. it’s just a matter of time and finding the right rhythm.”
After opting out of the season-opening Malaysia Open, Sindhu will make her 2025 debut at the India Open, which will be held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi starting Tuesday.
