A Busy Weekend for teh Badminton Aiglon Club
The Badminton Aiglon club had a jam-packed weekend of competitions,starting on Friday,January 10th,wiht the mixed interclub championship. While the men’s team had a break, both women’s teams regrettably faced defeats.
A Close Call for the First Team
The first team (D1 Ornaise) hosted Condé-sur-Sarthe at L’Aigle (Orne). Despite fielding a slightly depleted squad, they nearly upset the league leaders, ultimately losing in a tight 3-4 match.
the singles matches were evenly split, with victories for Guillaume Castel and Luc Perrona, while Guillaume Chiavassa and Sophie Grangeard suffered defeats. Grangeard came agonizingly close to changing the outcome,losing the final set 22-24.
In the doubles, only Castel and Perrona secured a win. The duos of Sophie and Billie Nicolas,and Billie and guillaume,both fell short.
A Tougher Loss for the Second Team
The second team (D2) faced a more decisive defeat against Bretoncelles, losing 1-6. The Aiglons lost all four singles matches (Alexandre Masurier, Robin Burlot, Aurélien Hurel, and Stéphanie Lemaréchal).
The only bright spot came in the doubles, where the pairing of Alexandre and Aurélien emerged victorious. Sandrine Février completed the team roster.
Young Talents Shine at the Orne Youth Championships
The same weekend saw the Orne Youth Championships take place in Argentan. The Aiglons returned with several impressive results, including some podium finishes.
In the Benjamin category, Théo Guillotin narrowly missed out on third place, while Jules Delarue, partnered with an Alençonnais player, clinched the departmental title.
Mahé and Raphaël Impress in the Minime Category
mahé Viau and Raphaël Elie, still competing in the Benjamin 2 category, had a successful tournament despite not securing a title.
In singles, Mahé was defeated in the semi-finals by the eventual winner, while Raphaël, after eliminating the second seed, lost the final in two sets. The duo reached the final in men’s doubles but fell short.In mixed doubles, they both lost in the semi-finals, partnering with Argentanaise players.
In the Cadet category, Romain Hénon and luis Delarue both exited in the round of 16. Simultaneously occurring, Robin burlot couldn’t break into the semi-finals in the Junior category.
Lucas Saillard’s Debut at the French Para-Badminton Championships
Lucas saillard represented the Aiglon club at the French Para-Badminton Championships in Gien.Competing in the SI 4 category with a prosthetic leg, he unfortunately finished third in his pool and missed out on the main draw. he’ll be looking to improve his performance next season.
