Lens Sets Sights on Feyenoord’s Mitchell
French Ligue 1 side RC Lens has expressed a strong interest in acquiring Feyenoord defender Jeyland Mitchell, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Feyenoord’s management has been officially notified of Lens’ concrete interest.
Mitchell, a 20-year-old Costa Rican international, has struggled to secure regular playing time under Feyenoord manager Brian Priske. While the Rotterdam club’s stance on a potential transfer remains unclear, Romano confirms Lens’ pursuit of the young center-back.
Feyenoord’s general director, Dennis te Kloese, recently suggested that Mitchell might be deployed as a right-back in the future. Te Kloese highlighted Mitchell’s notable performance during Feyenoord’s pre-season training camp in Marbella and his experience playing in that position for the Costa Rican national team.
Mitchell joined Feyenoord from Costa Rican club Alajuelense last summer for a fee of €2.5 million. Though, his first six months in Rotterdam yielded only 32 minutes of playing time across two official matches. His current contract with Feyenoord runs until mid-2029.
this news comes amidst a growing trend of Ligue 1 clubs targeting promising young talent from other leagues. Lens, currently sitting comfortably in the top half of the Ligue 1 table, coudl see Mitchell as a valuable addition to their defensive ranks.

Danny Mills: I think so. It’s understandable that at 20 years old, Mitchell wants regular game time to develop. Sitting on the bench, even at a club as big as Feyenoord, isn’t doing him any favors. Lens, currently sitting comfortably in Ligue 1, could be the perfect place for him to get that crucial first-team experience.

Danny Mills: Absolutely. Lens are a club that give opportunities to young players. They’ve shown a willingness to invest in talent and develop them. And if Mitchell gets the playing time he needs, he could blossom into a real asset for them.
