Today, we’re joined by Rob Gieben, a seasoned football expert and the head coach of the esteemed DRIBBEL football academy. Rob, thank you for being here.Let’s get straight into it. The academy is reopening this season with a focus on young talents aged 5 to 12. what inspired you to create this program?”
Rob Gieben: “Thank you for having me. The inspiration comes from my two decades of experience as a technique coach. I’ve seen firsthand how crucial the foundational years are in a player’s development. At DRIBBEL, we aim to provide a structured environment where kids can refine their skills while also enjoying the game. It’s about nurturing their passion and helping them grow, both on and off the field.”
Moderator: “Your methodology emphasizes functional techniques, speed, tactical awareness, and motor skills. But you also mention the importance of mental attributes like resilience and determination. Why is this holistic approach so critically important in youth football?”
Rob Gieben: “Football isn’t just about physical prowess; it’s also a mental game. Young players need to learn how to handle pressure, bounce back from mistakes, and stay focused. By integrating mental training into our sessions, we prepare them for the challenges they’ll face, not just in football but in life. It’s about building character as much as it’s about building skills.”
Moderator: “That’s a great outlook. I also noticed that the program welcomes children who aren’t affiliated with any football club. Why is this inclusive approach a priority for you?”
Rob gieben: “Every child deserves the opportunity to discover and develop their talents, regardless of whether they’re part of a club. By opening our doors to all, we create a diverse and enriching environment where kids can learn from each other. It’s about breaking down barriers and making football accessible to everyone.”
