Roma Intensifies Pursuit of Ajax Defender Devyne Rensch
AS Roma is resolute to secure the services of Ajax’s talented full-back, Devyne Rensch, and is preparing to submit an improved offer for the 21-year-old.
With Rensch’s contract expiring at the end of the current season and no indication of a renewal, Roma is looking to capitalize on the situation.
According to Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport, Roma’s initial bid of €5 million was swiftly rejected by Ajax, who are reportedly seeking a fee in the range of €9 million to €10 million.
Though, Roma has already made significant progress on the personal terms front. Florent Ghisolfi, Roma’s sporting director, has successfully negotiated a contract with Rensch that would see him commit to the Giallorossi until the summer of 2029.
Undeterred by the initial setback, Roma is poised to increase their offer by approximately €2 million in a renewed attempt to land the promising defender. The club is eager to add rensch to their ranks, particularly given his remarkable performances this season, featuring in 13 Eredivisie matches for Ajax. With his departure from Amsterdam seemingly imminent,Roma is hoping to finalize the deal soon.
Devyne Rensch to Roma: A Deal in the Making?
Today,we have a former Serie A golden boot winner,Roberto Mancini, joining us to discuss the latest transfer rumors swirling around Devyne Rensch.
Roberto, thanks for joining us. Roma are making a serious play for Ajax right-back Devyne Rensch. How do you rate this potential move for both the player and the club?
Roberto Mancini: Grazie! It’s a pleasure to be here.I think Rensch has enormous potential. He’s young, athletic, and defensively solid. Roma needs a reliable right-back, and he could flourish under Mourinho’s guidance. The fee is a bit steep for a player nearing the end of his contract, but if Roma can secure him for around €7-8 million, it’s a good deal.
Fascinating point about the fee, and it seems Roma initially lowballed ajax with a €5 million offer[[[[2 ],which was swiftly rejected. do you think Ajax is being unreasonable in holding out for around €9-10 million?
RM: Ajax is known for being tough negotiators, and they likely see a player of Rensch’s quality commanding a higher price. Though, his contract situation weakens their position. Roma’s counteroffer, reportedly around €7 million, is more realistic.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Rensch already impress you during his time at Ajax?
RM: You’re right! I’ve seen him play a few times this season, and he’s had some standout performances in the Eredivisie[[[[1]. He’s got pace, good tackling ability, and can contribute going forward. He definitely fits the mold of a modern full-back.
You mention his contract situation. It truly seems Roma has already secured personal terms with Rensch, locking him down until 2029[[[[2].
How crucial is that for Roma in getting this deal over the line?
RM: Absolutely crucial! It takes a major obstacle out of the equation. Now, it becomes purely a negotiation about the transfer fee. Both parties seem motivated to reach an agreement, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they find a solution soon.
It sounds like you’re giving this transfer a decent chance of happening.
RM: I wouldn’t be shocked to see Rensch donning the Giallorossi colors next season. This move seems beneficial for both the player and the club.
I completely agree, Roberto. this brings us back to the fans. What are your thoughts on this potential signing for Roma’s supporters?
RM: Roma fans are passionate and always hungry for success. While Rensch might not be a household name yet, his potential is undeniable. If he performs well in Serie A, he could become a fan favorite very quickly.
It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Roma fan. Thanks, Roberto, for your insightful analysis. We appreciate your time!
RM: The pleasure is all mine! Forza Roma!
