This decision signifies a monumental comeback for the city,which previously hosted the event in 1974 and 1979,showcasing its rich history in supporting major sporting events.
Mayor Claude Morin and Donald Paquet,the bid committee president,emphasized the overwhelming support from the Beauceron community. “We extend our deepest gratitude to SPORTSQUÉBEC for entrusting us with this possibility. It is both an honor and a privilege. We are thrilled to welcome 3,000 athletes and the entire Quebec Games community in 2027,” they stated together.
The bid committee has garnered remarkable backing, with over 6,900 signatures of support and more than 1,000 volunteers already signed up to ensure the event’s success. Additionally, local businesses have committed an impressive $1.5 million in funding to bolster the initiative.
Economic and Athletic Advancements
Hosting the Quebec Games is set to bring considerable economic and athletic benefits to the region. The Quebec government has pledged $6 million for upgrading sports facilities and an additional $1.4 million for operational costs. These investments are projected to stimulate the local economy, generating an estimated $20 million in economic activity.
While Saint-Georges will serve as the primary host, neighboring towns will also play a role. Beauceville will oversee baseball and basketball tournaments, Saint-Prosper will manage baseball matches, and Lac-Etchemin will be the venue for sailing competitions.
