How do you feel about seeing so much local talent representing the basque Country on an international stage?
Julen: It fills me with immense pride.Bidasoa has always been a nurturing ground for talent, and seeing these young players stepping up to represent our region is truly inspiring. This match is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain valuable experience and showcase their skills. I have there’s no doubt whatsoever they’ll make us proud.
Moderator: Absolutely! This clash is particularly captivating because Chile is currently in Gipuzkoa, preparing for the upcoming World Cup. Do you think this match will be a good indicator of their preparedness for the World Stage?
Julen: I wouldn’t say its a perfect barometer, but it’s certainly a good yardstick. Chile has a strong team, even relying on some veterans for this year’s World Cup.
Facing the Basque Country, a team known for its passionate play and tactical acumen, will be a valuable test for them. It’ll force them to adapt and refine their strategies.
Moderator: That’s a fair point. Do you think this is a good opportunity for the Basque Country team, considering it’s more of a ‘friendly’ encounter? Will they use it as a testing ground
for new strategies, or is the focus primarily on individual performance?
Julen: I think it’s a bit of both. While a win is always the goal, this match allows the coaching staff to experiment with different formations and player combinations, especially given the upcoming EHF European Championship qualifiers.
It’s also a chance for individual players to prove themselves and earn a spot in the squad for future competitions.

Julen: Chile loves a fast-paced game, they’re very agile and rely on their speedy transitions. The Basque team needs to be disciplined defensively and capitalize on every scoring opportunity. Patient build-up play will be key to breaking down their defense.
