Seoul SK’s Resilience Fuels Winning Streak
The Seoul SK Knights are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the 2024-2025 KCC professional basketball season.Thier recent string of victories, including a thrilling comeback win against the suwon KT Sonicboom, highlights their remarkable ability to overcome early deficits and secure crucial wins.
On January 5th, SK extended their winning streak to four games with a hard-fought 67-63 victory over KT at the Jamsil Student Gymnasium. This win marked their third encounter with KT this season, and once again, SK demonstrated their trademark resilience.
Coach Jeon Hee-cheol acknowledged the team’s tendency to start slow, stating, ”I encourage the players to perform well from the opening tip, but it hasn’t been easy.” This pattern has become a defining characteristic of SK’s gameplay, with veterans like Jamil Warney and Kim Seon-hyung often leading the charge in second-half comebacks.
The game against KT followed a similar script. Despite falling behind early, with KT’s Heo hoon (10 points, 9 assists) making an immediate impact upon his return from injury, SK refused to be deterred.
Fueled by Warney’s dominance under the basket (25 points, 18 rebounds) and Kim Sun-hyung’s clutch shooting (15 points), SK gradually chipped away at the deficit. Ahn Young-jun’s (12 points) versatility, both inside and outside the paint, proved instrumental in keeping SK within striking distance.
A pivotal moment arrived in the second quarter when Warney’s thunderous dunk tied the game at 29-29, injecting momentum into SK’s offense.
The third quarter saw SK take their first lead, but KT responded with a fierce counterattack, leaving the score tied at 47-48 entering the final period. The fourth quarter belonged to SK. Oh Se-geun’s contributions were crucial, setting up Warney for a go-ahead basket and sinking a crucial three-pointer to extend SK’s lead.
With two minutes remaining and SK clinging to a two-point advantage, veterans Kim Sun-hyung and Warney combined for a decisive sequence. Kim’s assist led to Choi Won-hyuk’s three-pointer, and Warney sealed the victory with a powerful finish under the basket.
Coach Jeon praised his team’s unwavering focus, stating, ”Our players showed astounding concentration at every crucial moment. I have complete confidence in our ability to win against any opponent.”
