Tlaxcala Prepares to Host Archery’s Elite for the 2024 World Cup Final
The world’s top archers are set to converge on Tlaxcala, Mexico, for the 2024 World Cup Final, scheduled for October 19th adn 20th. preparations are already underway in front of the Palacio de Gobierno, promising a spectacular event.
This marks the second time Tlaxcala has hosted this prestigious competition,a feat previously achieved only by Lausanne,Switzerland. Mexico itself has become a recurring host, welcoming the World Cup Final for the fifth time, more than any other nation, and for the third consecutive year.
This dominance reflects Mexico’s growing influence in the world of archery. As World Archery president Ugur Erdener stated, “I can’t imagine archery without Mexico.” The country’s impact extends beyond its borders, showcasing leadership in Latin America, nurturing high-caliber athletes, and consistently competing at the highest level.
gabriel Ramos, president of World Archery Mexico, emphasized the significance of Tlaxcala as a hub for archery advancement. “Tlaxcala provides a safe, tranquil, and remarkable setting,” he explained. “This combination allows us to showcase a world-class event in a unique location, attracting attention to the sport.”
Mexico will be represented by a formidable team of archers, including Olympic bronze medalists Alejandra Valencia and Ángela Ruiz, reigning Pan American champions Matías Grande and Sebastián García, reigning Central and Pan American champion Dafne quintero, and 2023 World Championship runner-up Maya Becerra.
The success of Mexican archers has spurred a national push to expand the sport’s reach. Ramos outlined plans to establish more archery schools and academies, train additional coaches, and increase participation across the country.
“We aim to make archery a priority sport in Mexico,” Ramos declared. “We are committed to developing the sport from the grassroots level, with our sights set on the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.”
Ramos also highlighted Mexico’s strength in both recurve and compound archery, noting the upcoming World Games, a crucial event for compound archers. He emphasized the federation’s dedication to nurturing all archery disciplines, including para archery, aiming to make it accessible nationwide and include it in the CONADE Paranacionales.
