Culiacán’s Barreda Takes the Mound in LMP Quarterfinal Showdown
The Mexican Pacific League (LMP) playoffs are heating up, with the Tomateros de Culiacán, the regular season champions, facing off against the Venados de Mazatlán in a best-of-seven series. Culiacán, boasting an impressive 43-25 record, has chosen their ace, Manny Barreda, to start the crucial first game against Mazatlán’s Javier Solano.
Barreda, a former Baltimore Orioles pitcher, dominated the regular season, securing eight wins against only three losses in twelve starts. His impressive 3.01 ERA and 1.53 WHIP solidified his position as Culiacán’s top pitcher. He’ll need to maintain this stellar performance against a Mazatlán team that barely clinched the eighth and final playoff spot.
Solano, while not as dominant as Barreda, still presents a challenge. The San luis Río Colorado native finished the regular season with a 3.58 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across fourteen starts, achieving four wins and five losses.
The Venados face an uphill battle against the formidable Tomateros.

Inside the Dugout: An Exclusive Interview with Jaime García
Welcome back, baseball fans! Today, I have a very special guest joining me: Jaime García, a former MLB pitcher with over a decade of experience, including crucial playoff appearances. jaime, thanks for joining us!
JG: My pleasure! Always happy to talk baseball.
host: You’ve known the pressures of high-stakes games, Jaime, so let’s dive into these LMP Quarterfinals headfirst! Manny Barreda starting in game one for Culiacán against Mazatlán’s Javier Solano – a classic pitching duel brewing.Barreda dominated the regular season. Can Solano, with his slightly less notable stats, pull off the upset?
JG: It won’t be easy, that’s for sure. Barreda’s got the momentum, the experience, and those numbers are hard to ignore. But baseball’s unpredictable. Solano, though, he’s got grit, and maybe being the underdog lights a fire under him. It’ll all come down to minimizing mistakes and who executes their game plan better. Exciting stuff!
Host: Absolutely. What about Hermosillo’s Jasson Atondo, the league batting champion? He seems poised to be a major factor, facing Obregón’s pitching staff.
JG: Atondo’s aforce to be reckoned with, no doubt. He’s got the hot bat, the confidence, but Obregón can’t be underestimated. Their pitching has been solid all season. It’s a classic matchup of offensive firepower versus a strong defensive team.
Host: And how about the Jalisco-Mexicali showdown? Reynaldo Rodríguez is hungry for RBI’s, facing Mexicali’s David Reyes, who boasts an impressive ERA. Who you see taking that one?
JG: That’s a clash of titans! Rodríguez is a relentless hitter, but Reyes can shut down even the strongest offense. This series could go either way. It’s going to come down to pitch selection, timing, and a bit of luck.
Host: we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the other series, the Cañeros de los Mochis versus the Algodoneros de Guasave. This one looks like a close call, wouldn’t you say?
JG: You’re right to highlight them. Every series is going to be a battle. That’s what makes the playoffs so exciting. Both teams have the talent, and they’ll fight tooth and nail for every win.
Host: Absolutely. Jaime, for baseball fans reading this, who should they keep their eyes on? Any dark horse picks for the championship?
