Russi Stands United for Peace: A Torchlight Procession for a World in Need
In a world grappling with numerous conflicts, teh call for peace resonates louder than ever. On january 5th, 2025, the citizens of Russi will gather to reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful future. The annual Torchlight Procession for Peace,a powerful symbol of unity and hope,will illuminate the historic center,reminding us of the urgent need for global harmony.
This year’s event, commencing at 4 pm in Piazzetta Dante, promises to be particularly poignant. Before the procession begins, a series of speeches will be delivered by prominent figures, including Mayor Valentina Palli, Don Luca Ravaglia, representatives from the Islamic Council of Russi, and the local Orthodox community.
Adding to the richness of the event, children from the Parish of Sant’apollinare, representatives from various voluntary associations, and local trade unions (Emergency, Anpi, CGIL, Cisl, Uil) will also share their voices, highlighting the importance of peace for all generations.
The speeches will be interwoven with moving musical performances curated by the talented students of the Contarini municipal School of Music. A warm atmosphere will be created with a counter offering customary mulled wine and panettone, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
At 5 pm,the torchlight procession will commence,winding its way through the heart of Russi. This year, a unique banner, adorned with peace symbols, will lead the procession. Created by approximately 90 students from the third classes A, B, C, D, and E of the A. Baccarini lower secondary school, the banner commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Russi, reminding us of the hard-fought peace we cherish today.
The procession will follow a familiar route, starting from Piazzetta Dante and passing by critically important landmarks such as Piazza Farini (in front of the Town Hall), Piazza Gramsci, Via Trieste, the public gardens, Via Trento, Corso Farini (passing under Porta Nova), Via Maccabelli, and returning to Piazzetta Dante.
The organizers encourage all citizens to participate in this meaningful event, carrying flags of peace if possible. This is an chance to stand together, reflect on the importance of peace, and demonstrate our unwavering commitment to a world free from conflict.
Rain or shine, the Torchlight Procession for Peace will proceed, symbolizing the enduring hope for a brighter, more peaceful future.
