VEENENDAAL BC ‘t Veen’s badminton squad faced another tough challenge against Ulftse BC in their recent away fixture. Dinja van Haastert shared her thoughts before the match: “After our 2-6 loss in the home game, I was hopeful we could turn things around as the season progressed.” However, the outcome mirrored their previous encounter, with Ulftse BC securing a 2-6 victory and solidifying their position alongside BC Mariken.
In the men’s doubles, Wouter Fondse and Leon Wegen delivered a thrilling performance, replicating their success from the home match. “The game was intense from the first serve to the last, culminating in a narrow 19-21 finish in the third set,” Van Haastert noted. Conversely, Jamie van Brienen and Dinja van Haastert struggled to find their rhythm in the women’s doubles, falling short with two consecutive 21-12 losses.
The men’s singles saw Ben van Luttikhuizen take the first set 21-12,but his opponent bounced back to claim the second set 21-17. “The final set was a nail-biter,” Van haastert recalled. “Both players gave it their all,but regrettably,it ended 23-21 in favor of our opponent. It could have gone either way.”
Jamie van Brienen faced a tough challenge in her singles match, losing the first set 21-8. Despite a stronger showing in the second set, she couldn’t overcome her opponent, who clinched it 21-16. Wouter Fondse showcased some impressive rallies but ultimately fell short, losing 21-18 and 21-14.
Dinja van Haastert emerged as the sole victor in the singles category. “I was defeated decisively in the home match, but this time I turned the tide, winning 21-12 and 21-19. It was a satisfying achievement,” she said. This win marked BC ‘t Veen’s second point of the day.
The mixed doubles proved to be another close contest. Jamie van Brienen and Ben van Luttikhuizen lost a grueling first set 30-29. “We made too many errors in the second set, which cost us the match,” Van Haastert explained.
Despite the loss, BC ’t Veen maintains its third-place standing in the fourth division, holding a four-point lead over BC Gova. The team remains persistent to finish the season on a high note.
