Turin Ignites for the 2025 Winter University Games
excitement fills the air as Turin gears up to host the 2025 Winter University World Games. The countdown culminates tonight with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Inalpi Arena, scheduled from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Before the grand spectacle, the Games’ torch embarks on a final, symbolic journey through the heart of the city.
This morning,the torch commenced its tour at the CUS Turin headquarters on Via Braccini. Among the first to carry the flame was Mauro Berruto, a former CUS Turin coach, national volleyball team coach, and current deputy.
The torch then made its way to the Comune,where Councilor for Sport Domenico Carretta passed it on to Mayor Stefano Lo Russo in Piazza Palazzo di Città. The torch’s journey continued to the Regina margherita Hospital, where it was met by Franca Fagioli, Director of the Pediatric Oncohematology and Transplant Centre, and judo champion Manuel lombardo. at the UGI,the torch was greeted by children and families residing in the facility.
Cyclists took over the torch relay on Corso Unità d’Italia, between the Automobile Museum and the Labor Palace.At 1:30 pm, the torch arrived at the Piedmont Region skyscraper, where a relay involving President Alberto Cirio, Councilors Marina Chiarielli, Gian Luigi Vignale, and Andrea Tronzano, and several other councilors took place. By 2:00 pm, the torch reached the Palavela.
The final leg of the torch relay culminated at the Inalpi Arena at 3:00 pm. Among the torchbearers were Barbara Bonansea, a footballer for Juventus Women and the national team, Jacopo Suppo, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Turin, Fabrizio Ricca, Regional Councilor and member of the Universiade Board of Directors, Stefano Mossino, President of CONI Piedmont, Lorenzo Lentini from FederCusi, and Alessandro Ciro Sciretti, President of the Organizing Committee.
