Engaging the Road: A Conversation with Sports Legend Park Ji-sung on Volvo’s TuneIn Radio Integration
Moderator: Good afternoon, everyone! Today, we have the privilege of sitting down with none other than Park Ji-sung, the legendary South Korean footballer and former Manchester United star. Park Ji-sung is not only a sports icon but also a tech enthusiast, making him the perfect guest to discuss Volvo Car korea’s recent integration of the TuneIn radio service into their T-Map infotainment system. Welcome, Park Ji-sung!
Park Ji-sung: Thank you for having me. It’s great to be here and discuss something that combines two of my passions: sports and technology.
Moderator: Let’s dive right in. Volvo Car Korea recently announced that TuneIn Radio, a global radio streaming service, is now accessible through their T-Map infotainment system. This service offers over 100,000 radio stations, podcasts, and live sports coverage, including major leagues like MLB, NFL, and NHL. As someone who has played on the global stage, how do you see this integration enhancing the experience for sports fans on the road?
Park Ji-sung: This is a game-changer, no doubt. When I was playing, I ofen traveled long distances for matches, and having access to live sports coverage or even podcasts about sports was a great way to stay connected and entertained. for fans, this means they can now listen to live commentary of their favorite games or catch up on sports news while driving. It’s like having a sports bar in your car!
Moderator: that’s a great analogy. But let’s play devil’s advocate for a moment. Some might argue that having access to live sports while driving could be distracting. What’s your take on that?
Park Ji-sung: That’s a valid concern, and safety should always come first. However, I think the key here is balance. Volvo has always been a leader in safety, and I’m sure they’ve designed this system with that in mind. For example, the integration with the T-Map infotainment system likely includes voice commands, so drivers can keep their eyes on the road. Plus, listening to sports is different from watching it—it’s less distracting.
Moderator: Excellent point. Speaking of the T-Map system, Volvo Car Korea and T Map Mobility invested 30 billion won to develop this integrated infotainment system, which has been standard in all models since the 2023 model year. They’ve also included 15 years of complimentary over-the-air updates and a 5-year digital service package. How significant do you think these long-term updates are for consumers?
Park Ji-sung: In today’s fast-paced tech world, long-term updates are crucial. Think about it—technology evolves so quickly that what’s cutting-edge today might be outdated in a year or two. By offering 15 years of updates,Volvo is ensuring that their customers stay ahead of the curve. It’s like how athletes need to continuously adapt and improve to stay competitive.
Moderator: That’s a great comparison. Now, let’s talk about the curated selection of channels for the Korean market. Volvo and T Map Mobility have tailored the content to exclude unavailable options and recommend relevant ones. How do you think this localization impacts the user experience?
Park Ji-sung: Localization is key, especially in a market like korea where preferences can be very specific. By curating content,Volvo is showing that they understand their customers. It’s like when a coach tailors a game plan to the strengths of their team—it just works better. For sports fans, this means they’ll have access to content that’s not only available but also relevant to their interests.
Moderator: Well said. Before we wrap up, I’d like to ask you a personal question. If you were still playing today, what kind of content would you listen to on TuneIn Radio during your travels?
park Ji-sung: Oh, definitely live football matches and post-match analysis. I’d also tune into podcasts about sports psychology and leadership—topics that have always fascinated me. And maybe some music to relax before a big game.
Moderator: Fantastic choices. Thank you so much, Park Ji-sung, for sharing your insights with us today. It’s been an absolute pleasure.
Park Ji-sung: Thank you! It’s always exciting to talk about how technology is enhancing the sports experience.
