Today, we’re joined by former Premier League striker and current pundit, Alan Shearer, to discuss the hottest transfer rumour bubbling around the clubs: West Ham United’s pursuit of Celtic’s Daniel Cummings.

Alan Shearer: thanks for having me. It’s always great to chat about the stunning game.
This young striker has been lighting up the youth leagues in Scotland. 24 goals in 24 games is a phenomenal record. What are your initial thoughts on Cummings’ potential?
AS: It’s exciting, isn’t it? Those are numbers any manager would take notice of. Clearly, the boy has talent. He’s got a lot of the raw ingredients: pace,an eye for goal,and he seems to have that natural instinct for finding space in the box.
West Ham are in need of attacking reinforcements. Antonio, Bowen, and Fullkrug are all out injured, and Michail Antonio isn’t getting any younger. Does Cummings have what it takes to step up to the Premier League level right away?
AS: That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? It’s a big leap for any young player, regardless of their scoring exploits at a lower level. The Premier League is a different beast altogether: quicker, more physical, more tactically demanding.
I think it’s vital he’s choosing his next move carefully. A loan to a Championship club might be a good stepping stone, a chance to adapt to the pace and intensity of professional football at a slightly lower level.
Let’s talk competition. Clubs like Brighton, Ipswich, Brentford, Wolves, Fulham, Sunderland, and even Burnley are all reportedly after Cummings. Why do you think there’s so much interest?
AS: Well, it’s pretty clear this is a player with enormous potential. He’s a gamble, sure, but a gamble with the potential for a huge payoff. And it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of clubs see him as a future key asset that they could develop and ultimately sell for a meaningful profit down the line.
Celtic, though, are known for developing talent. Why would they let a player like this slip away?
AS: They may not have much choice, to be honest.Cummings’ contract is nearing it’s end, and if he doesn’t want to re-sign, Celtic will risk losing him for nothing in the summer. they’ll be looking for a money-spinning deal in January before they’re forced to let him go for free.
So, the question isn’t IF Cummings will move, but WHERE?
AS: That’s the big question, isn’t it? for West Ham, he could be a long term solution to their striker crisis. They may be willing to splash a bit of cash, but I think they’ll face stiff competition from clubs further down the table who see him as a potential star.
What advice would you give to a young player like Cummings at this critical point in his career?
AS: I’d say listen to your gut, lad. Weigh up all your options carefully. Choose the club where you see yourself playing the most football, developing the most, and, ultimately, achieving your potential.
