These camps are special becuase they create a safe space for individuals to push their boundaries and forge enduring friendships.
The camp’s director, Gianni Maman, described the atmosphere as filled with ”inspiration”. What do you think inspires peopel within the Judo community?
Kenji: Inspiration comes from many places within Judo.
Seeing someone overcome a challenge, witnessing the unwavering support of a sensei, or even experiencing a moment of pure technical brilliance can ignite that spark.Judo teaches us resilience, discipline, and respect – qualities that resonate far beyond the dojo walls.
Eugenio, one of the participants, spoke about Ezio’s leadership style, highlighting his ‘smile and unwavering support.’ How important are these qualities in a Judo sensei?
Kenji: A good sensei is not just a master of technique; they are a mentor, a guide, and a cheerleader. Ezio’s approach embodies the spirit of Judo. Encouragement and positivity are crucial because they create an environment where people feel safe to learn and grow, even when they make mistakes. Judo is about progress, not perfection.
Mara captured the essence of the camp beautifully by stating, “The word that resonates most deeply is ‘peace.’ In a world often consumed by conflict, this space offers a sanctuary of tranquility and unity.” Do you beleive Judo can contribute to a more peaceful world?
Kenji:
Without a doubt. Judo teaches us to resolve conflict through understanding and cooperation. It encourages respect for others, irrespective of their background or beliefs. By fostering these values on the mat, we hope to inspire a ripple effect that extends beyond the world of Judo.
Milena’s experience with the collaborative spirit of the camp shines a light on a powerful aspect of Judo. What are your thoughts on the importance of community within this discipline?
Kenji: Judo is not a solitary pursuit. it thrives on the collective energy and support of the community. We learn from each other, we push each other, and we celebrate each other’s successes. This sense of belonging is invaluable, especially in today’s world.
