Rising Stars Shine at the 2025 association Championships: An exclusive interview with Tennis Legend Steffi graf
The 2025 Association Championships kicked off in spectacular fashion at the Havellandhalle in Seeburg, showcasing the next generation of tennis talent. From dominant performances in the U12 category to thrilling victories in the U14 division, the tournament has already set the stage for an exciting season. To delve deeper into the action, we sat down with tennis icon Steffi Graf, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, to discuss the rising stars, the future of tennis, adn her thoughts on the tournament so far.
Moderator: Steffi, thank you for joining us today. The 2025 Association Championships have already delivered some astonishing performances. What are your thoughts on the young talents we’ve seen so far?
Steffi Graf: Thank you for having me! It’s always exciting to see young players step up and showcase their skills. Feenia Kraus, as an example, was absolutely dominant in the U12 category. A 6:2, 6:0 victory over aurelie Lienau is no small feat. Her precision and composure on the court are extraordinary for someone so young. Similarly, Paul Schwarzberg’s 6:0, 6:1 win against Johann Pollok shows he’s a force to be reckoned with. These kids are not just playing; they’re strategizing and executing like seasoned professionals.
Moderator: Do you think these early victories are a sign of future success, or is it too early to tell?
Steffi Graf: Early victories are definately a good indicator, but consistency is key. What’s important is how these players handle pressure, adapt to different opponents, and continue to develop their game. I remember my early days—winning felt great, but it was the lessons from losses that truly shaped me. That said, the talent we’re seeing here is undeniable.
Moderator: Let’s talk about the U14 division. Paula Deus and nikita Rung both delivered commanding performances. What stood out to you about their matches?
Steffi Graf: Paula Deus’s 6:2,6:2 win against Nicole Sokolska was a masterclass in control. She didn’t just rely on power; she used angles and placement to outmaneuver her opponent. That’s a sign of a mature player. as for Nikita Rung, his 6:2, 6:1 victory over Luca Fahr was equally impressive. He’s got a strong serve and a killer forehand, but what I loved was his court awareness. He knew exactly when to attack and when to play defensively.
Moderator: Do you think these players have what it takes to compete at higher levels, like the U16 and U18 categories?
Steffi Graf: Absolutely. The transition to higher age groups is challenging, but players like Paula and Nikita have the foundation to succeed.the key will be adapting to stronger, more experienced opponents. it’s not just about physical ability; it’s about mental toughness and the willingness to learn.
Moderator: The U16 and U18 championships are coming up next weekend. What are your expectations for those matches?
Steffi Graf: I’m expecting some intense battles. The U16 and U18 categories often feature players who are on the cusp of turning professional. They’ve had more time to refine their skills and develop their game. I’ll be keeping an eye on how the younger players handle the pressure. It’s one thing to dominate in your age group, but stepping up against older, more experienced opponents is a whole new challenge.
Moderator: Steffi, as someone who’s been at the top of the sport, what advice would you give to these young players as they continue their journey?
Steffi Graf: My advice would be to stay hungry and never stop learning. Tennis is a sport that demands constant enhancement. Work on your weaknesses, stay disciplined, and most importantly, enjoy the process. The road to success is long, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
