The ‘streamer’ Álvaro Sánchez narrated the first NBA 2K Christmas tournament, which faced four players from the ACB League

Just as there are competitions in all sports disciplines you can imagine, in recent years the world of video games has also become professional and there are already leagues and tournaments in these disciplines, which are followed by millions of people around the world. The ‘eSports’, as they are known, move masses of fans and giving voice to some events is already at the level of narrating a final of a soccer World Cup. The viewing figures corroborate this.

And the truth is that in this world there is an avilesino that is beginning to make a hole. The journalist and communicator Álvaro Sánchez had the privilege of narrating just a few days ago the first NBA 2K Christmas tournament, organized by the Wiper Gaming company, which measured four established players from the ACB Basketball League.

The event was broadcast live through the Twitch platform and this Avilesino gave voice to the confrontation of Spanish basketball stars such as Jaime Fernández (Unicaja), Ferrán Bassas (Joventut), Nemanja Radovic (UCAM Murcia) and Edgar Vicedo (Monbus Obradoiro) The latter was the one who won the title of champion in the tournament.

The ‘caster’ himself, as the ‘eSports’ narrators are known, admits that he did not imagine having an opportunity like this. «Actually, it came a bit by surprise, I work in the company that organized the event, which specializes in training for people who want to compete professionally in video games. And the truth is that the proposal was mine, it occurred to me to do a Christmas tournament like the one that the Avilés Judo Club does every year », he confesses.

What was not expected is that the idea would be accepted, nor that they would choose him as the narrator of the event “and much less that four professional basketball clubs were going to accept the invitation and allow their players to participate”, thanks Sánchez, who narrated the event with Movistar Plus journalist Fran Fermoso, specialist in NBA and ACB.

“For me it is really an honor, I have been in the world of video games for a long time, I do my own broadcasts playing live through Twitch to what I like, but it is very competitive and requires professionalization to be able to spend time and desire,” he explains this avilesino, who in the internet world is known as ‘Chuck Pastrana’.

Effort and dedication

His case, like that of the big names in ‘eSports’ or massive platforms such as YouTube, can undoubtedly serve as an example for new generations who think of the internet as that great market in which to gain a foothold and dedicate themselves professionally to something that just a few years ago nobody could imagine.

“This takes work, I have a degree in journalism, a master’s degree in communication and I am in the third year of Advertising,” explains Sánchez. «I definitely left Avilés in 2014 and now I live in Madrid, I work in a company where we precisely develop training courses using professional players. Currently we are focused only on one game, and then apply the model to more and continue to grow “, anticipates this young man from Aviles.
