August 2021: Inter Milan and Borussia Mönchengladbach agree on the change of Marcus Thuram. A transfer fee of 25 million euros is to flow to the Lower Rhine. Shortly afterwards, the attacker tore his knee ligament and Inter cancels the deal.
January 2022: Only four and a half months have passed since then. A transfer like the one negotiated in the summer now seems unattainable. After his comeback at the end of October, Thuram played ten games – and shone with listlessness instead of scorer points (zero).
The fans, who once waved the corner flag, are no longer well-liked, as is the case with coach Adi Hütter, who initially trusted Thuram for over 90 minutes. No wonder the 24-year-old wants to leave. According to the ‘Bild’, preferably in winter. But there are no offers in sight.
Rare prerequisites
Thuram’s facilities are undisputed and rarely found. For his 1.92 meter body length, the robust and goal-threatening Frenchman is extremely strong on the ball and also fast on the move. In the 2019/20 season, Thuram achieved a top speed of 35.6 km / h, making him the sixth fastest player in the league.
Thuram no longer brings these qualities to the field (top speed 2021/22: 33.95 km / h). Too often the 24-year-old lacks the intensity, too often you can tell that his thoughts were in Milan in the summer. In order for clubs of this caliber to knock again in the future, Thuram has to stop his steep decline and improve himself in the second half of the season.
