This Wednesday, January 12, Deportivo Independiente Medellín announced the hiring of Uruguayan player Óscar Javier Méndez, who signed for one year in the Antioquia team.
The 27-year-old Mendez can play as a central defender or midfielder. Through a video on its social networks and a statement on its website, the DIM made official the arrival of the fourth foreigner for this 2022, where he will play the Colombian League and the South American Cup.
“Uruguayan Javier Méndez is a new player for Deportivo Independiente Medellín. Javier, a 27-year-old central defender or midfielder, has been linked to Rojo for a year ”, explained the powerful team.
Regarding his career, Javier Méndez started at Racing de Montevideo, the club where he was from 2013 to 2018 and where he crossed paths with Julio Comesaña. In the 2019 season he crossed the pond to join Unión de Santa Fe, an Argentine team where he played until 2020. Since 2020, the ‘charrúa’ returned to his country to play for Danubio, a club with which he was promoted to the First Division. The DIM will be his second club abroad.
With the officialization of Méndez, Independiente Medellín has incorporated four new players: Felipe Pardo, José Hernández Chávez, Luciano Pons. Not counting the returns of Andrés Ricaurte, Guillermo Tegüé, Éver Valencia, Stiven Rodríguez, subtracting the officialization of the return of Bryan Castrillón, who trains with the team.
