Liverpool played Arsenal in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Even so, Liverpool is believed to still be very strong.
Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield, Friday (14/1/2022) early morning WIB in the semifinals of the English League Cup first leg. While the second leg will be held at the Emirates Stadium next week.
‘The Reds’ are in a big loss to face this match due to the absence of a number of players who appeared in the Africa Cup of Nations. Among them are Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the two mainstays on Liverpool’s front lines.
Salah and Mane are the top three on Liverpool’s top scorer list this season. Salah has scored 23 goals in all competitions, while Mane has 10 goals.
However, Liverpool is still considered more mature as a team than Arsenal. Former Arsenal defender Ashley Cole estimates Liverpool are still slightly above the Gunners.
“I think Liverpool may still have something more for Arsenal. I know they will lose Mane and Salah, but I just feel it will be a little too difficult for Arsenal,” he told Sky Sports quoted Metro.
“It will be a good match, interesting to be honest,” he continued.
But Ashley Cole has also highlighted the possibility of Arsenal arriving with extra motivation after their disappointing run against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. The north London club lost 0-1 in the match.
“They went to Nottingham Forest and played subpar. This will be a good opportunity for them to step into the final, to stake a claim on returning to a position they feel they deserve to be in. And they should be there,” he continued.
“But again, they are facing a very, very difficult Liverpool,” added Cole.
