SINGAPORE: Singaporean Delegation to Indian Open Badminton Tournament Will Be ‘More Attentive’ Following Positive COVID-19 Tests forced several players to withdraw from the eventsaid on Thursday (January 13) the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA).
None of the Singapore players have tested positive, and none of the players’ close contacts have tested positive either, the SBA said in response to an inquiry from the CNA.
“At this time, the Singapore team will not add more measures than it already has, but a greater emphasis will be placed on distancing and vigilance,” the SBA said.
Seven players withdrew from the ongoing tournament in New Delhi after testing positive for COVID-19, organizers said Thursday.
Among them are world number 18 from India, Sai Praneeth, and doubles player Simran Singhi. Singhi’s positive test meant that his mixed doubles partner Akshan Shetty also had to withdraw as a close contact, local media reported.
The duo were scheduled to perform against Singapore’s Terry Hee and Tan Wei Han on Thursday. The withdrawal of the Indian couple meant that Hee and Tan advanced to the quarterfinals in a walkover.
