Thibaut Meyer, physical trainer for the Brussels residents, talks about his daily work with the leader of the competition.
No less than 255.2 km, or the equivalent of more than six marathons: this is the distance traveled by Casper Nielsen since the start of the season. This statistic makes him the fastest-running Pro League player, ahead of Josh Cullen (248.4 km), Casper De Norre (243.6) and Ryota Morioka (241.9).
With an average of over 12 km per game, the 27-year-old midfielder is not the only Saint-Gillois to run a lot in Felice Mazzù’s team matches. “The whole team runs a lot, explains Thibaut Meyer, the physical trainer of the Union since this summer. In each match, our players run an average of 5 to 6 km more than the opposing team. Our midfielder has a big volume of play with players like Nielsen, Teuma or Marcq when he plays. Lapoussin also develops a lot of intensity in his game. Our attackers run a lot, I have rarely seen that, and it’s very solid defensively. They all have a good athletic profile and were recruited for that. “
