Which three footballers are currently the three best players in the world? Manchester City international Ilkay Gündogan has revealed his favorites.
Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gündogan has chosen the three best footballers in the world today.
During a Q&A on his Twitter-Profile named the 31-year-old German national player in response to a question from a fan Robert Lewandowski (FC Bayern), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool FC) and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid). Lionel Messi, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2021 and is nominated for FIFA World Player of the Year alongside Lewandowski and Salah, is missing from his list, as is Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ilkay Gündogan does not rule out a return to the Bundesliga
In addition, when asked about the toughest midfielder he has met, Gündogan’s choice fell on Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante. Kevin De Bruyne and Mesut Özil he called “perhaps the two best playmakers the Premier League has ever seen”.
Gündogan was also asked if he could imagine returning to the Bundesliga. The answer from the former Dortmund player: “I’m very happy at Manchester City at the moment. But never say never. The Bundesliga is still a great league that I follow a lot. It will always be interesting for a German international.”
Gündogan moved from BVB to Manchester in 2016. At City he is still under contract until 2023.
