Judo, in German “gentle way”, is a fascinating martial art that originated in Japan and has meanwhile found millions of followers all over the world. The basic technical principle in judo is “to win by giving in”. The opponent’s energy and movements are used to bring them down and under control. Although judo has its roots in ancient Japanese self-defense techniques, it has developed into a popular competitive sport that has even been Olympic since 1964.
The other important aspect in judo is the moral principle. We always practice with a partner and are responsible for the mutual well-being. Helpfulness, self-control and respect are just three of the values that are indispensable for a judoka. Strengthening the ability to work together harmoniously and at the same time developing one’s own personality, that should be the goal of every judoka. Whether as a hobby, competitive sport or philosophy of life – due to its versatility, Judo offers something for everyone, young and old, big and small.
In our club, too, judo is practiced by many different people for different reasons. From hobby athlete to competitor, from preschool to retirement age, we are united by the love of our sport.
