Arrow archery club opens its doors to preparation course

The newly founded Arrow archery club in Los Angeles is in the expansion stage of its sporting discipline and for this it has organized a course so that interested people can learn about and practice this medieval sport.

Claudio Cifuentes, instructor and member of the club, told La Tribuna that this entity was established in July of last year, being made up of 25 partners and that the final purpose is the development of this sporting discipline in the commune.

He explained that, within the variety of archery are the shooting formats, “where instinctive archery predominates in our club, the most medieval discipline of shooting, in which the archer tries to use the least possible technology in the shot” .

In the same way, too – he said – are the Olympic archers, who use more technology for shots, such as sight, stabilizers, press buttons, etc.

“The club is always in constant expansion, currently we train in the municipal swimming pool enclosure, which was provided by the municipality while waiting for a more stable space,” said Cifuentes.

Archery is currently an Olympic sport in which a bow is used to shoot arrows.

The origin comes from the use of this weapon as a hunting instrument and as a war instrument. With the appearance of firearms, it became obsolete as a professional instrument for general use.

Archery made its Olympic debut in Paris in 1900, and was also tested by medals at the 1908 and 1920 Games. However, the rules were inconsistent, as they depended entirely on the host country of the Games, which made it difficult the preparation of athletes. After 52 years, the sport, now modernized, was reintroduced in Munich in 1972 and has remained on the Olympic program ever since.

A PRECISION SPORT

The goal of archery is simple: shoot arrows as close to the center of the target as possible. Olympic archery targets have a diameter of 122 centimeters with a series of 10 concentric scoring rings, separated into five colors. The interior color, gold or yellow, scores ten or nine points. The “tens” are only 12.2 centimeters in diameter, about the size of an apple. Archers fire at the target from a distance of 70 meters, which is about the width of two medium-range aircraft, placed side by side.
