Rob Manfred, MLB commissioner sent a statement to congratulate the appointment of Rachel Balkovec as the first manager in history. Balkovec became the first woman to be appointed manager of the Tampa Tarpons affiliate of the New York Yankees Organization.

The statement highlights that, “On behalf of Major League Baseball, I congratulate Rachel on this historic achievement. As manager of the Tampa Tarpons, she will continue to demonstrate her knowledge and leadership within the Yankees organization. We wish Rachel all the best in her new role and appreciate her ability to lead the growing movement of women in baseball operations and player development. ”
