Passed by Anderlecht, Nicolas Raskin spent thirteen years of his life at Standard and is a real Liégeois. He is our Saturday guest ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated Clasico. The opportunity for him to discuss the crisis hitting his club, the waltz of the coaches on the banks of the Meuse and even the Red Devils in a long interview of which here is an overview.
Winning hasn’t happened to you in a while. How did you experience the chain of poor results at the end of 2021?
“Bad. Very bad. I even had trouble sleeping and getting out of my house. I’m from Liège and I heard that we are the worst Standard team ever. And believe me: I don’t want to be associated with that image.”
This image is also associated with the financial situation of the club. Does she worry you?
“On a daily basis? No. We take care of the pitch. The club is doing badly? That’s no excuse. A player plays for his club but also for himself. You have to have a minimum of self-esteem. When I lose against Leuven and then Zulte, it hurts my heart, regardless of the club’s situation. But we know that the club will be better off if we do well on the pitch. It all starts with us.”
Despite the results, do you agree if you are told that you feel better than a few months ago?
“That before the change of coach? Yes, clearly. I no longer felt particularly good with Mbaye (…)”
