The Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, has formally accused Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, of “harassing” Novak Djokovic for not letting him participate in the Australian Open and denying him a visa up to two times despite Judge Kelly’s decision. In a speech distributed by national media, Vucic defended the “rule of law” and wondered what would happen if it were Serbia who did not respect a judge’s decision.
“Why do you harass him and why do you live not only for him and his family, but also for the whole a nation that is free and proud?”, Vucic has criticized after the last decision of the Australian government to deport Novak Djokovic for not being vaccinated and lying in some aspects of the visa requested to participate in the Australian Open.
“We are often given the opportunity to know what the rule of law is. You can imagine what would happen if a minister in Serbia could annul the decisions of the judges, that is, valid judicial bodies,” the Serbian president defended regarding the judge’s decision Kelly which temporarily released Djokovic.
In fact, the Serbian has stressed that his words are produced with the confidence of being right in the whole case. “A president of a small country has come along who can say that to a great prime minister of a big country. Do you know why I can? Because I am telling the truth and because you know – in reference to the Australian prime minister – that I am telling you the truth”, has been reaffirmed.
Aleksandar Vucic has also accused Scott Morrison of carrying out all this campaign against Djokovic not to lose votes nor the support of the population. “Do you need to please your public?”, the Serbian leader reproached while announcing his full support for the tennis player: “We will fight for Novak Djokovic and the fact that you harass him one day, two or five will not change the judgment of our people about the people of Australia, who we respect and cherish, or about Novak.
Vucic reaffirms his support for Djokovic
The highest Serbian representative has not even hesitated to address his citizens, recalling that they have already faced “many problems” and “pressure from all over the world”, but that despite this “they never managed” to snatch their “heart” from them “as a nation”. , pride and dignity”. Vucic has highlighted that, after Australia’s decision, it has been possible to verify how he exercises a “independent judiciary” and “an unimportant judiciary because all power is in the hands of the executive.”
President Vucic concluded by addressing the Australian population and its rulers: “Serbia will be with Djokovic and will be able to answer you by behaving much better than you with Djokovic, but respecting international customs and respecting everything that means an adequate representation of a state”. “Long live Serbia, Novak, we are with you”, concluded Aleksandar Vucic in the last message of institutional support for the number one tennis player in the world.
These words contrast with those made by the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, who warned a few days ago that Djokovic could have broken the rules of his own country by not confining himself and holding several public events after having tested positive for coronavirus.
