A few days before the start of the Australian Open, David Goffin has a problem. The Belgian number 1 had to give up the fight in Sydney. A knee injury reared its head again.

David Goffin (31) is looking for his former form this season. In preparation for the Australian Open, he took part in the Sydney tournament. There he was allowed to play the quarterfinals today against ex-number 1 Andy Murray (34).

The match didn’t last longer than one set. At a 5-2 deficit, Goffin asked for help for his left knee. A game later he had to throw in the towel.

Goffin has been struggling with his knee for some time. Last year he had to cancel his (changeable) season earlier due to a similar injury. Will he get his knee patched in time for next week’s Australian Open?

Early this morning Britain’s Daniel Evans (ATP-26) emerged as the opponent in the first round. Goffin is the only Belgian representative in the men’s tournament of the Australian Open.

Andy Murray only needs 1 set for a place in the semi-finals.
